Description
This course has been developed by ITU to provide an introduction to the Tampere Convention on the Provision of Telecommunications Resources for Disaster Mitigation and Relief Operations (referred to as the Tampere Convention throughout this course), its structure and institutions, and the process of its implementation.
This self-paced module is aimed at Member States’ public and private telecommunication sector, foreign ministers, disaster management authorities and designated officials.
The objectives of the course are to understand the importance of the Tampere Convention, its evolution, the process of ratification and implementation, its benefits and challenges in the implementation process.
At the end of this course, participants will have a general understanding of the core issues of the Convention, how it operates and what the processes are for its effective implementation.
This course is based on the '' text which is available for download on the ITU website and is referenced throughout the course.
At the end of course, you can put your knowledge to the test by taking a quiz. Participants will receive a badge certifying successful completion if the course was passed at 70% or higher. The quiz will become available after completion of the last module.
Module 1: Introduction to the Tampere Convention
Learn about the importance of the Tampere Convention, relevant UN and ITU resolutions and the general provisions of the Convention.
Module 2: Ratification of the Tampere Convention
Learn about the ratification process of the Tampere Convention and which countries have ratified the Convention.
Module 3: Implementation of the Tampere Convention
Learn about the process of implementation of the Tampere and understand the associated benefits and challenges of implementation.
