Description

This self-paced training course offers an introductory exploration of strategic foresight tailored to individuals engaged in fostering digital innovation for sustainable development. With a focus on bridging the digital divide and addressing global challenges, the course emphasizes the crucial role of strategic foresight in shaping equitable futures. Through seven modules, participants delve into essential concepts, tools, and terminology while honing practical skills in futures thinking. The course equips learners with the competencies to integrate strategic foresight into their specific domains, fostering strategic thinking and innovation in digital development initiatives. By recognizing the value of strategic foresight processes, participants gain insights to drive meaningful change in their projects, policies, and strategies, ultimately contributing to the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Policymakers, decision-makers in public and private sectors, innovators, entrepreneurs, research and academics interested in future studies, Industry professionals across various sectors. 

No specific qualifications required; open to individuals with a keen interest in strategic planning and future-oriented thinking. 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:  

  • Apply strategic foresight methodologies to assess and anticipate future trends in digital technologies within the context of sustainable development. 
  • Analyze the potential impact of digital innovation on addressing the triple planetary crises. 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing strategic foresight tools and techniques to identify opportunities and challenges in digital development initiatives. 
  • Develop strategic plans and policies that integrate digital technologies to advance sustainable and equitable outcomes. 
  • Synthesize insights from futurists and case studies to inform strategic decision-making in digital innovation projects. 
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to co-create future scenarios and strategies for digital development. 
  • Reflect on personal and organizational biases in futures thinking to enhance strategic foresight capabilities. 
  • Design actionable steps to implement strategic foresight principles in digital innovation projects or policies. 

The methodology for this course is self-paced and it includes post tasks in the form of knowledge checks, case studies, hands-on try-it exercises, self-study materials, resources, and expert-led video recordings. These components engage participants in practical application, analysis of real-world examples, interactive exercises, reflective practice, and insights from industry experts. 

Assessment and grading in this course will be conducted through knowledge checks and quizzes within each module, as well as a final quiz at the end of the course. Each module's assessments contribute to the overall understanding of the course material and participants' progress towards achieving the learning objectives.  

Knowledge checks within each module do not have limited attempts, however, you have 3 attempts for the final quizzes at the end of each module and for the final quiz at the end of the course. A total score higher than 70% is required to obtain the ITU badge.

We strongly encourage registrations from female participants, and participants from developing countries. This includes least developed countries, small island developing states and landlocked developing countries.
